Length Didn't Matter

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing off the second most common rifle that you will be able to use as the Norwegians, the M/1912 Carbine.

What would become the M/1912 Krag-Jørgensen carbine stemmed from a perceived lack of performance of the M/1894 rifle in shooting competitions. In the process of looking into ways to solve this a number of improvements were trialled, including the use of heavier barrels, moving the rear sights closer to the receiver and isolating the bayonet lug from the barrel. There was also the expectation that Norway would move towards a spitzer cartridge, and so the action was strengthened to deal with this. By about 1911, it had been discovered that the barrel could be shortened with no real downsides, and so further development shifted towards short rifles only. The final design was settled on in the summer of 1912, with production starting the following year.

To go with the new carbine, a new bayonet was introduced. This longer bayonet provided the same reach as the shorter one issued with the original rifle. The first major change to the rifle was the reinforcement to the bayonet lug, with a large clamp added to prevent the stock from cracking. The planned spitzer ammunition did not arrive until 1926, and the carbines were sent back to the arsenal to have their sights adjusted. In total, 30118 carbines would be produced between 1913 and 1926, with ours made by Ashton.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are back again with another weapon that you will find in the hands of our Norwegian soldiers: the 11,25 m/m pistol M/1914, perhaps better known as the Kongsberg Colt.

In 1911 the Norwegian military had just concluded a set of trials to select a replacement to the M/1893 Nagant revolver, with the winning design being the Colt Model 1902 in .38 ACP. For a number of reasons this wasn't seen as ideal, and the trial would be repeated in 1913 with the addition of brand new Model 1911 Colts. Following extensive testing, this was adopted as the M/1914. The trial guns had been purchased directly from Colt in the USA, but the rights for manufacture had to be obtained from FN in Belgium.

By September 1914, FN was occupied by the Germans and a production deal was signed quickly and cheaply to allow Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk to begin tooling up to make the pistols. This turned out to be a slow process, so the first few hundred pistols were instead purchased from Colt in 1915 and 1917. Domestic mass production of the M/1914 began in 1918 with the Norwegian pistols receiving a larger slide release compared to the original American M1911. 22311 would be produced before the 1940 German Occupation. A further 8200 would be produced under occupation for use by German forces in the country, and 2319 were assembled from parts after the war. Ours was made by Ashton and RedRogueXIII.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing off one of the more iconic Soviet vehicles of the Second World War: the lumber behemoth that was the KV-2.

The fortifications of the Mannerheim Line had proven to be a big headache for the Red Army to deal with. An immediate requirement for a heavily armoured assault gun was issued. While there were a couple of ideas floated about, the winning design took just two weeks to come up with. Featuring a 152 mm M-10 howitzer in a large heavily armoured turret sat upon an unmodified KV-1 chassis, the first few prototypes saw very limited field use at the end of the Winter War.

The first design of turret had a sloped front and was found to be rather cramped inside. The more common second turret was roomier and the rear hatch allowed better access for resupplying shells. Both made the tank nearly 5 metres tall and strained the already overworked drivetrain of the KV to near breaking point by increasing the weight to over 50 tonnes. 203 of these tanks were produced before production was halted in 1941. The Red Army was not satisfied with their poor handling and would not have continued production even if the German invasion had not happened.

In combat the KV-2 proved itself to be a near impregnable obstacle to the German guns and a total disaster of reliability - with most tanks being lost to breakdowns long before they could find the enemy. The Germans would capture a large number of them and put several back into use, mostly as artillery observation vehicles taking advantage of their immense height. Our KV-2 was made by Seth Soldier, who modified it from Toddel's KV-1S.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

As you might have noticed we have been rather quiet since the release of version 2.64 "Compagnons". Today we have a rather exciting announcement that should cast some light over what we have been working on.

As we were starting to finish up the last update, it occurred to us that we already have a lot of content that would fit into the Spanish Civil War, and with this seed planted we got to work. We are pleased to announce that we have gotten far enough that we are announcing our plans for the next major update to Forgotten Hope 2, which will be version:

2.7
¡No pasarán!

As you can see we already have tanks and aircraft that were provided to both the Nationalists and the Republicans by the Germans and Soviet Union, all beautifully retextured into the appropriate paint by Matt Baker, and while the playermodels are still in an early stage of development, we have at least started exploring options for authentic Spanish voice commands.

As you can probably guess, this is still in the early stages of development, and we have not forgotten about our other in-production work, which may or may not release before anything that you see today.

April Fools!
