Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update. Today we are showing off the second most common rifle that you will be able to use as the Norwegians, the M/1912 Carbine. What would become the M/1912 Krag-Jørgensen carbine stemmed from a perceived lack of performance of the M/1894 rifle in shooting competitions. In the process of looking into ways to solve this a number of improvements were trialled, including the use of heavier barrels, moving the rear sights closer to the receiver and isolating the bayonet lug from the barrel. There was also the expectation that Norway would move towards a spitzer cartridge, and so the action was strengthened to deal with this. By about 1911, it had been discovered that the barrel could be shortened with no real downsides, and so further development shifted towards short rifles only. The final design was settled on in the summer of 1912, with production starting the following year. To go with the new carbine, a new bayonet was introduced. This longer bayonet provided the same reach as the shorter one issued with the original rifle. The first major change to the rifle was the reinforcement to the bayonet lug, with a large clamp added to prevent the stock from cracking. The planned spitzer ammunition did not arrive until 1926, and the carbines were sent back to the arsenal to have their sights adjusted. In total, 30118 carbines would be produced between 1913 and 1926, with ours made by Ashton. That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update.
