Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Firstly we would like to thank everyone who had voted for us in the first round of ModDB's Mod of the Year competition. We have once again made it to the second round of voting among the Top 100 Mods. We would once again be very thankful for any votes that you might want to send our way.

Mod of the Year Awards

We will be running another event over the Christmas season, bringing with it another new map made especially for it by Ts4EVER. The event will run with the map list below on the following weekends:

Saturday 23rd to Sunday 24th December
and
Saturday 30th to Sunday 31st December

The map list will return to normal in the week between, with the exception of Verdenne being added into the normal rotation.

Verdenne
by Ts4EVER

This map is set on Christmas Eve 1944, with the Germans pushing into the area of the US held Belgian village of Verdenne. It comes with all three sizes and is fully navmeshed for bots thanks to the work of IvanWazowsky.

The map list will be the following:

  • Bastogne
  • Eppeldorf
  • Meuse River
  • Operation Mars
  • St. Vith
  • Verdenne

Verdenne will be added to your game sometime this week by the launcher. We hope to see you on the servers!

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, our Twitter, our subreddit, and/or Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing off a new anti-tank gun that will be coming to some of our existing maps, the Pak 97/38. Before we get to that though, we have a recent video from Ts4EVER that covers some of the other balance changes coming to existing maps in the next update.

The German encounter with the heavy Soviet tanks during Operation Barbarossa had shown the necessity of getting more powerful anti-tank guns to the front. The 5.0 cm PaK 38 was struggling, and the new 7.5 cm PaK 40 would not be able to be supplied in the numbers need quickly enough. Thoughts turned towards the hundreds of French and Polish modèle 1897 field guns that had been captured previously. Using the German HEAT shells they would have the power needed, but the original field gun carriage was unsuitable.

The solution was to mount the gun barrels onto the modern PaK 38 split trail carriage and then fit the gun with a distinctive Solothurn muzzle brake to lessen the recoil force. 2854 guns were converted in 1942, with a further 858 the next year - production stopping as the PaK 40 became available in sufficient numbers. The PaK 97/38 was cheap to make and reasonably effective, but was hardly ideal.

The Finns had purchased 48 modèle 1897 field guns from France in 1940, and by 1942 had pulled them away from the front due to excessively worn barrels affecting accuracy. In 1943 they were shipped to German and 46 were converted to the PaK 97/38 standard. 7 of these guns would be lost in the battles in the summer of 1944.

The Italian 8th Army received enough of these guns to outfit all but one of their 10 divisions with a 6 gun battery in 1942. Our PaK 97/38 was made by Seth Soldier, using the carriage from our PaK 38 by Malsa and Rad.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Before we begin today, December has come round yet again and that means that ModDB are running their Mod of the Year competition yet again.

Mod of the Year Awards

Today we are showing off some of the new improved quality sights that you will find in tanks, stationary guns and other vehicles in the upcoming update.

In total, more than 90 different vehicles and variants have been upgraded with more than 60 different sights for the British, Canadian, American, Soviet, German, Italian and Finnish factions, according to historical references, documentation and real material. Each nation reflected its adoption, priorities, and approach to the armoured combat in a different way. During the course of the Second World War the telescopic sights used went from simpler configurations to more complex ones conditioned by the increase in variety of ammunition types and the changes in calibre.

The superiority in the complexity and quality of the German "Zeiss" sights marked and conditioned many confrontations. For example, in the North African campaign the British with more obstructive crosshairs and lower magnification compared to the German "triangle" were at a clear disadvantage against the Germans in long range engagements. As the conflict progressed, the Allies captured and studied German sights and realized they would need to improve the quality of their lenses to overcome this "optic-crisis".

It was not until 1944 that the first American "M71D" and "M71G" sights with 5x magnification started to equip the M4 medium tanks. The soviets had also improved their own with the "TSh-series" of the T-34-85 and IS-1, with more magnification and glass quality that imitated the sophisticated German "TurmZielFernrohrs".

Additionally, we have extended this change to the various ball mounted secondary machineguns on our tanks. The DT on most Soviet vehicles now is aimed over open ironsights, US vehicles are aimed purely by tracers through the operator's periscope, and you will be able to see the clever use of backup main gun telescopes by British hull machineguns. These changes have been made by the hard work of Seth Soldier, with the necessary research undertaken by Guarnere and Radiosmersh. You can see a full list of the sights that have been changed here.

That's all for today, but be sure to come back next time. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, our Twitter, our subreddit, and/or Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news.
