Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing off a render of a German submachine gun, the MP 38

The MP 38 grew from a German Army request for a compact submachine gun that could be easily carried and used by armoured vehicle crews and paratroopers. Erma had a prototype that seemed to fit these requirements in their EMP 36, and with some modifications to simplify the design it became the MP 38. One notable feature retained was the rail under the barrel that could be hooked over the door or side of an APC and allow firing from within without the risk of the muzzle falling inside the armour.

The MP 38 has a couple of notable and easily visible differences from its more well known replacement, the MP 40. The machined magazine well has lightening holes cut into the sides and lacks the reinforcing ribs that the MP 40 design transitioned to to allow thinner steel. The receiver is a single machined bar of steel, and has distinctive lightening slots cut into it. This single part is the main change that was introduced with the MP 40, which is really just an MP 38 updated to use stamped parts.

About 42000 MP 38s were manufactured from the summer of 1938 through to about 1942, with MP 40 production starting to replace them in 1940. Our one has been modified by Seth Soldier from our MP 40 made by Hail of Nails and Rad.
