Siege of Tobruk13.03.2007 23:00 GMT Hello and welcome back to todays news update for Forgotten Hope. Hell yes, you have no idea how much I missed writing this sentence. And what could be better than coming back with a news update? I could start to tell what I did the past three months, but I will better keep it short and kick it off with the update instead! Siege of Tobruk is our title and that is what you will get to see. We would like to present the first screenshots and the minimap layout for the Tobrukmap made by Lobo. Tobruk, as one of the few significant ports in Libya, was a prize worth a serious fight. And that not only once. This map is set in the early months of the year 1941 when Tobruk was first under siege by German forces under the command of Lieutenant General Erwin Rommel. His Afrika Korps tried to capture the city for nearly half a year. Almost 35,000 German soldiers where involved fighting roughly 14,000 Allied men. 9,009 Allied soldiers were killed during the attack on the fort. The casualties on the German side were nearly 8,000 men.Australian commander, Lieutenant General Leslie Morshead, needed some tough equipment to face the Afrika Korps. He got one of the ugliest tanks ever conceived--The British Cruiser Mk IVA (A13 Mk II). The Cruiser Mk IVA was a prewar design armed, like its more well known successors of the Crusader Series, with an Ordnance QF 2-pounder and an 0.303 BESA machine gun. Mk IVAs served with the 7th Armored Division in the Western Desert between 1940 and 41, as well as seeing action in France and Greece. The Cruiser Mk IVA was originally manufactured by Nuffield, LMS, Leyland, and English Electric, but for Forgotten Hope2 modeled and skinned by Montoya. That's all for today, but be sure to come back for another Forgotten Hope update. And don't forget to join us on IRC. Feel free to visit our public forums to discuss this update or other news. |
